Guanacos are among the most emblematic animals of Torres del Paine National Park, in Chilean Patagonia. Commonly seen across the open plains and hillsides, they usually live in herds, always alert to movement, distance and danger.

In this wild territory, guanacos are also the main natural prey of the puma, one of Patagonia’s most powerful predators. Since hunting was prohibited inside the national park, their population has grown, allowing these animals to occupy the landscape with greater freedom and visibility.

Their survival, however, depends on constant attention. From an early age, young guanacos learn from the herd how to read the terrain, recognize threats and remain vigilant.
