Swamp Man

Photographed in 1988 in a mangrove area on Florianópolis Island, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Swamp Man is part of the Elemental series, exploring the deep integration between the human body and the natural environment.

The model demonstrates extraordinary control of body and mind, merging with the surrounding ecosystem as if becoming part of its organic structure. Between sea and coast, the mangrove forms a living territory of small rivers, lagoons, roots, mud, and forest — a vital environment for the balance and regeneration of fauna and flora.

This photograph reflects the importance of preserving mangroves, fragile ecosystems that generate life for both land and sea. Here, the human presence is not dominant, but integrated, silent, and respectful.

Captured with an analog camera on color positive film, the original image was digitized in high resolution using a CMYK Hell cylindrical scanner, preserving its depth and detail for large-format fine art prints on 300 gsm or heavier paper.
